9 November 2008: KML Racing to Sponsor "Ride from Hell" Award

KML Racing, Inc announces a new award. The KML "Ride from Hell" award will go to the team with the most uncomfortable vehicle. KML's President, Don Kahn, has had several uncomfortable entries over the past ten years. The first one, in 1998, was a Claimer Class BMW 7-series. No odometer, no AC, no radio. At one point in OK, it was 106 F in the front seat. Five gas leaks; a bent distributor rotor shaft; a tendency to shut down when wet; sometimes, it wouldn't turn off; once, it turned itself on.

After several years in other, more comfortable cars, Kahn bought an Ultima GTR. The first year, 2005, 3rd gear was not available under race conditions. Too much toe resulted in front tires down to cord before getting to Nelson Ledges. Use of the radiator cooling fan caused the fuse for the dashboard lights to blow. Lack of interior space and unopenable windows resulted in some very bad smelling drivers.

The award will be $1000 to the winning team's charity; a special trophy to be awarded later; and an inscription on the KML Ride from Hell Trophy, which will reside at KML International Headquarters in Colrain, MA.
