Do I need $500,000 in liability insurance?
Yes. Everyone in the car needs to be covered either as a named driver on the entered
car’s policy, or in separate policies. In a perfect world, this would be
unnecessary, but we reside in a world with a culture of lawsuits, this protects
us all.
Are motor swaps legal?
Yes. The classes are based on what the car was when it came from the factory; not what
is has become. In fact, we don’t care if you somehow stuff a 12 cylinder Allison
V-12 into the car. It’s your car, your money, you’ve got to live in it for a week.
What modifications are legal?
Hmmmm, any, or certainly many. Well, the car has to be street legal. This means
that we will need to verify that the car is registered, inspected and insured for
use on public highways.
What tires are legal?
All tires must conform to the tire policy posted for the specific year. All
tires must come from Tire Rack with the required markings to insure compliance
and keep teams from changing tires mid-event.
What do I do in case a tire fails during the event?
If a tire fails during the event, a team must inform One Lap officials of the
change and provide verifiable justification for the replacement. Failures due
to too much negative camber, for example, are not considered reasons for
replacement. Any teams found changing tires without proper notification
and reason will be disqualified. If a change is necessary, it is strongly
suggested that the failed tire be retained until an official can see it.
Does my co-driver have to be a member of the sanctioning body?
Yes. Everyone that enters the event has to be a member of the sanctioning body to
be covered by the insurance. Once inside a racetrack, the sanctioning body’s
insurance applies.
I’ve driven for years, do I need two drivers schools?
As the on-track speeds have increased over the years of One Lap, we need to
know that all competitors have the skills to safely deal with anything that
might happen on the racetracks. Two drivers schools with instruction in a
racing environment is considered the absolute minimum. Most racetracks have
this instruction available, many at a reasonable cost. Please contact us if
you need some guidance to find some in your area. In rare cases, some have
had equivalent experience. Any waivers to the two-school rule will be made
on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us directly for clarification.
Does my co-driver need two schools if not competing on track?
No. Many teams have transit-only drivers. While they are not required to have
two schools, they will be issued a non-driver wristband at registration and
if for any reason they are found to have driven, or attempted to drive, on
any racetrack, disqualification is to be expected. Transit-only drivers are
allowed to compete at dragstrip, autocross and skid-pad events.
Does my co-driver need two schools if not competing on track?
No. Many teams have transit-only drivers. While they are not required to have
medical exams, they will be issued a non-driver wristband at registration and
if for any reason they are found to have driven, or attempted to drive, on
any racetrack, disqualification is to be expected. Transit-only drivers are
allowed to compete at dragstrip, autocross and skid-pad events.
